PSX plunges on Middle East Tensions
Amidst President Trump’s ambiguous Middle East policy and a fresh wave of attacks on Iran, the Pakistan Stock Exchange experienced a sharp downturn characterized by volatility during the past trading week; the 100-Index fell by 3.5 percent, shedding 6,439 points. Investors lost PKR 712.86 billion over the course of the week.
The Pakistan Stock Exchange’s 100-Index closed the week at the 175,803-point level. The index lost 2,315 points on Monday and 6,408 points on Tuesday; however, the market rallied mid-week after President Trump reversed his decision to impose a 20 percent fee on the Strait of Hormuz—a gain that was wiped out by a renewed slump on the final trading day due to fresh attacks on Iran.
As per the statistics, the 100-index recorded a weekly high of 181,148 points and a weekly low of 173,349 points. The market’s average daily trading volume fell by 31% to 740 million shares, while the average daily trading value declined by 28% to $124 million; meanwhile, market capitalization dropped by PKR 713 billion to PKR 19,790 billion.
