SBP Calls for Research Papers for National Conference on Economy
KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan has invited researchers, academics, and policymakers to submit original research papers for its upcoming National Conference on Economy, scheduled for December 18, 2026, at the SBP Auditorium in Karachi.
The one-day conference will examine how policymaking in Pakistan must adapt to emerging challenges. The SBP noted that recurring global shocks have kept commodities and energy markets volatile. Due to reliance on imported energy, such shocks have heightened vulnerabilities for Pakistan. Their unpredictability and severe impact also pose significant risks to price stability.
To build long-term resilience, the central bank emphasized the need for strong external buffers. This, it said, requires a competitive and vibrant export sector along with deep and well-functioning domestic markets to boost exports and attract foreign capital.
The conference aims to bring together researchers, experts, and thought leaders to discuss policy prescriptions, actionable reforms, and future strategy. Accepted papers will be presented in dedicated sessions, alongside keynote addresses and policy roundtables with renowned experts. The event will also showcase research aligned with SBP’s Research Agenda 2026-2029.
The two key themes are “Monetary Policy Transmission amid Supply Shocks and Structural Shifts”, and “Evaluating the Role of Capital Inflows and Export Competitiveness for External Sector Sustainability.”
Abstracts are due August 20, 2026, full papers by September 30. Authors outside Karachi will receive economy-class travel and two nights’ stay.
